With the increase in dating apps, online video calling and other technology, you may be fooled into thinking that online and, in particular, dating apps is the only way to meet someone.

However, let me reassure you that is not that case.

So, you might be thinking:

“If I don’t go on the apps to meet someone, am I limiting my chances and how on earth do I meet a partner?”

JOIN A MEETUP GROUP

If you have not heard of Meetup, then it’s time to check it out.

It is worldwide service where you can join any group according to a category. For example, you could join a walking group, photography group or social trivia group.

I like the idea of Meetup because you get the chance to meet people without the pressure to “date” them. You are both simply there because you have a common interest, which is a great building block for any relationship. Not only that, but you might also make some new friends in the process.

GET SET UP!

Why not ask your friends and family to set you up?

Going on a blind date can certainly be daunting, but who knows you better than your loved ones?

Have a chat to your friends and family about what you are looking for in a partner and what values are important to you. And remember to ask that they don’t take offence if you don’t gel with the person they have set you up with.

HOST A STRANGER’S DINNER

What on earth is a “stranger’s dinner” you may be thinking.

Basically, it’s a dinner party where each person invites one single person that doesn’t know any of the other guests. It’s a great way to have fun, eat and meet someone new.

If you don’t fancy hosting a dinner, check online as depending on where you live, there are dating services that run group dinner dates in local restaurants.

Not only do you get to meet new people and start a possible romance, but you get a yummy dinner to boot.

GO SPEED DATING

Yes, speed dating still exists!

Speed dating is a great opportunity to have 3-5 minutes with a stranger and trust your gut as to whether there is a connection, or not.

If you are nervous, take a friend who is also looking for love, and have a bunch of questions prepared to ask.

BE OPEN TO MEETING SOMEONE … ANYWHERE

Know what you want, what your values are and be open to meeting people.

Accept invites to social events, especially the ones where you get to meet new people

Embrace the idea that the next person you bump into when you are out might be your next partner. It could be walking down the road, in the supermarket, the gym, even the doctor’s surgery … it might even be the doctor!

The truth is, you don’t know where you will meet your next partner. So, smile and say “hi” to that stranger … it could be the most important connection you ever make.
