10 Crazy things to break-up the monotony of mum life

Monotony of mum life | Beanstalk Single Mums

I love being a mum, there is nothing more rewarding than bringing little humans into this world, but it can get a bit monotonous.

If your days are a cycle of kids/work/meals/washing/bed you can be forgiven for wanting to break-free and do something exciting once in a while.

And why not?

As humans (yes, even mums!) we have basic needs, and one of these is variety/uncertainty. This is the need to feel excitement, change, challenge, surprise and entertainment. Knowing this will help you understand why you might be folding the washing one day and suddenly get the urge to run down the street naked.

So, know you know the ‘why’, let’s look at the ‘what’.

I don’t think I could have managed being a mum without throwing a bit of crazy into the mix and it’s been good for my kid’s to see that mum is more than just a washing folder and food providing machine. I am a human being with needs and someone who, like them, wants to have fun.

Here is my list of crazy things to break-up the monotony of mum life.

10 CRAZY THINGS TO BREAK-UP THE MONOTONY OF MUM LIFE

DO A SKYDIVE

Or a bungee jump. Something completely and utterly ridiculous where you get your adrenalin pumping and utter sensory overload. Give your body and mind the jolt out of the norm and show your kids that mum is definitely a cool kind of crazy.

LEARN TO POLE DANCE

Stick with me here because any exercise is great, but there’s something about pole dancing that is exciting, racey and very un-mum like. Not only can pole dancing make for a hilarious exercise but it burns calories, builds self-confidence, strengthens joints and creates kinaesthetic awareness (internal awareness of your body).

TAKE A ‘NO DESTINATION’ ROAD TRIP

Grasp the weekend with both hands, pack your bags and jump in the car … with or without kids. The only rule is that you have no idea where you are going. No plans. No timelines. No expectations. Just drive and see where you end-up. As you leave your home town, the stresses will drop away and your sense of adventure will kick-in.

GO SKINNY DIPPING

Throw-off your clothes with gay abandon and submerge yourself in water (not the bath!). How good does that sound? Swimming naked is not only hugely liberating but it boosts the immune system, releases endorphins and helps blood circulation. Note: Please do it legally. Whilst being arrested in the nude might be crazy, it’s not the kind of crazy we are aiming for.

GET A TATTOO

Choose a word, quote or image with real meaning to you … then get it tattooed on your body for life! You might be surprised to know that getting a tattoo releases both endorphins and adrenaline. Plus, you have a life-long memory of your moment of madness.

BUY SOME SEX TOYS

There is something so secretive and delightfully naughty about buying sex toys. They are the ultimate treat ‘just for mum’. Using a quality vibrator can improve vaginal health and relax you. You also produce oxytocin (the love hormone) when you orgasm which is one of your happy hormones. Need a break from the ironing?

GO CLUBBING

Grab your girlfriend, get glammed-up and hit the local nightclub. There is nothing like the thumping base, lights and crowds of happy party-goers to make you feel young. Strut your stuff and basically enjoy being 18 again.

WATCH THE SUNRISE

How many sunrises have passed you by in a blur of mum-life? Sunrise is a beautiful time of day. It brings a peaceful, healing energy and the reminder of exciting beginnings and beauty all around us. Best bit is: It’s completely free and you can drink coffee while enjoying it. We have a beautiful beach near our house where we can what the sun show. Find a spot near you, sit back and chill.

START DATING

If you’ve been living like a nun, then starting to date again will certainly break the monotony. Step outside your comfort zone and discover yourself and your needs as a woman at this time in your life. Online dating can be fun and exciting, while you widen your social circle and bring new people in to enrich your life. Just think … you might even find someone to do these crazy things with you.

DANCE IN THE RAIN

Alone or with kids, when the rains hit, get out there and DANCE … even halfway through dinner. We naturally run from the rain to stay dry, so dancing in it instead creates feelings of wildness, freedom and rebellion. Dance, sing, run, splash in puddles. Ignore the neighbours … they probably think you’re crazy anyway.
