As a child, Easter has always been one of the best holidays for me. It has always been colourful as there's always paint and crayons involved. And of course, the chocolates! But what I remember the most fondly are all the simple yet meaningful activities I did with my family that I want to recreate now that I'm a mum. If you're looking for new ideas on how to spend this holiday this year, here are nine Easter activities for kids and mums to share.
Fun Easter Activities for Kids and Mums
Easter Egg Scavenger Game
First in our list is the classic Easter egg hunt game! I have heaps of fond memories of spending entire Sunday mornings searching the gardens at the church for hidden plastic eggs with tiny gifts and sweets. I even had an Easter basket where I would place the plastic Easter eggs I had collected.
You can still have an Easter scavenger hunt even if you're staying indoors. For toddlers, set up an Easter sensory bin with colourful kinetic sand and bury the eggs in it. Take things up a notch by hiding smaller sand bins in different parts of your house. Each bin will have eggs that contain a clue for the location of the next bin. They will have to find all the bins to get the final prize.
Easter Games
Eggs are one of the quintessential symbols of Easter, so egg-themed games, like egg and spoon race or pin the tail on the bunny, could be a great bonding activity with school age or younger children. This game is perfect for a big group, so invite your child's cousins and friends for some friendly competition.

Get Colouring
Getting their hands messy, whether it's colouring or kneading dough, is fun and also beneficial to early childhood development. Next in our list of fun activities, colouring books are the one of the easiest Easter activities for children and you don't have to spend anything. You most likely have crayons or paintbrushes in your child's study and there are lots of free printable Easter colouring pages for every age group. Bunny, eggs, chicks, and flowers are easy choices for younger kids.
For older kids, you can paint a plaster Easter bunny or a simple Easter stained glass. You can also set up an egg painting activity using natural dye.

Easter Crafts
Making handmade Easter art is also a great bonding activity between kids and mum. Get creative using recycled stuff like egg cartons, tissue paper, shredded paper, or whatever else is available to make paper eggs or paper squishy rabbits. Crafts keep them busy, but make sure to sit down with them. True bonding means you're doing things together and accomplishing things together.

Dough Activities
Playdough is always fun sensory activity even for adults. Make sure you use edible dough to stay safe. Here's a Peeps Playdough recipe using Peeps marshmallows to get you started.
If you're looking for more long-lasting crafts that you don't have to discard as soon as Easter is over, I highly recommend 2D baked ornaments. You'll need edible playdough cut using spring-themed cookie cutters and stamps like rabbits and flowers.

Favourite Easter Activities for Mums and Kids (cont.)
Chocolate Eggs
You and your kid will love this sweet activity. Take Easter as an opportunity to do kitchen experiments with your child. Making chocolates is a great STEM activity ... and also you have chocolates at the end! This year, my daughter and I will make peanut butter eggs, but with the trendy pistachio crunch inside. Exciting!

Hot Cross Buns
Since we're in the kitchen already, baking is one of the best bonding activities that are also educational. Your toddler learns fine motor skills. Your school-age kid learns about measurements. And everyone develops patience. Plus, you get to spend a looooong time together in the kitchen. This traditionally Easter bread is the perfect bonding moment for you and your kid this today. Your child will love to do the honour of cutting the cross at the top ... just make sure to watch closely.
I love this recipe from RecipeTinEats because there are different options depending on your equipment. I have made all three, but the first one is the best version for me.

Easter-themed Puzzle
Solving puzzles was my ultimate bonding activity with my mum growing up. This helps develop problem-solving skills while having a lot of time to talk and catch up. There are nice Easter themed 1000-piece sets available online that your child will enjoy, but check out your local library first to see if you can borrow one for free.

Watch a Movie
At the end of the day, movies are always an incredible bonding time for kids and parents to cap the day off. Growing up, my family watched The Ten Commandments on VHS every Easter Sunday. Me and my siblings could sit through that almost four-hour long film because, well, we didn't have a choice. Thankfully, now, we have a greater selection of Easter movies to choose from. You can let your little one pick the movie on Netflix or Prime. Cuddle in bed with mugs of hot chocolate. Always, the best way to end Easter.

Final Thoughts: Easy Easter Activities for Kids' and Mums' Bonding
Easter is more than just chocolates and eggs. It's about creating with your kids a bond that never stops or ends. Whether you're painting eggs, baking hot cross buns, or simply snuggling up for a movie, the best moments are the ones spent together.
As a mum, I love that these simple activities for Easter give us a chance to slow down, laugh, and truly connect. The thing is, it doesn’t have to be perfect or Pinterest-worthy ... just real and filled with love. So, whatever you choose to do this Easter, embrace the mess, enjoy the giggles, explore craft ideas, and make it a holiday that you and your child will remember forever.
