Tips for Journalling Beginners
I'm not a mental health expert, but I've kept a journal for as long as I can remember. For those of you who are novices in this practise, here are some effective ways to help you in your journey of putting pen to paper:
- Try to have a schedule. Find a quiet place and set aside a time to write with no distractions. The best times are as soon as you wake up and before you sleep.
- Don't worry. Your journal is a safe space. Inside its pages, no one will judge your grammar and spelling. Just let your thoughts flow. Since no one else is reading it, you don't have to lie or hold back. Write freely; even “stream of consciousness“ will work perfectly.
- Use technology. If you're not the pen and paper kind of mum, no one's stopping you from using a digital journal. And even if you are writing on traditional notebooks, many apps can help you with prompts. Some sites will also give you printable gratitude journalling guides.
Conclusion: Self-reflection journal prompts
Many mental health professionals encourage us to write down our thoughts as a self-care practise. Journaling can help you reflect about, have deeper understanding of, and gain clarity about values that align with yourself. The process can be cathartic; therapeutic, even. This can make you feel better on the inside, which can manifest in an improvement in your physical health. Journaling practice is a recommended tool to aid in your journey of self-discovery. I hope these journal prompts help in your journey to getting your thoughts out.
Journaling is more than just writing. It's a way to nurture your inner world, process your feelings and emotions, and celebrate your journey. As you write using these questions, remember to be kind to yourself. Your story, your growth, and your reflections are all valuable steps toward becoming the best version of you.
