Question for Mums with older kids, I got a notice of assessment from Child Support as my ex had obviously just done his tax, and they did the whole from this date to this date you get this much, then this date to this date, this much etc. But then as my eldest turns 18 next year (OMG…..), from this birthday the payments for him stopped. He will be in year 12 and still at school at this point and then planning on going to Uni and still living with me. I have 100% care of him as he chose to have nothing to do with his Dad, but does any know what happens regarding financial support from Dads for kids going to Uni? or does it just all become my responsibility??

There is none – Child Support stops at 18.

Unfortunately this is for you to work out with dad if that is possible. I am in the same boat .. and it is not possible so all costs are on me 🙁

Your ex will not be forced to pay anything towards uni edu but there are certain plans whereby your son pays the loan back when he has an adequate job.

Even though your ex doesn’t having him he would still pay child support until he is 18 but nothing from then on as they are treated as adults. Check out grants/loans for uni.

If you want your ex to contribute after your son turns 18, which of course he should, then you will have to work it out privately with him. Sounds hard, and it probably will be.
