Ok what is mediation and when should it be done?
Ex and I don’t have set parenting plan at the moment because his work is sporadic so we try and work around it until he has something with regular hours/days. Things are starting to head south with settlement though so want to keep ahead of what needs to happen.

Mediation is a service you and your ex can attend either together or separately and it involves a third person, this being a trained mediator who is completely non-bias but will help you to come to agreements on issues around the kids and sometimes the financial settlement.

And it is sometimes called family dispute resolution but they are the same thing.

Have a listen to this podcast which explains how mediation works:

There’s also heaps of articles about it, if you put “mediation” into the search bar on the website.

      All the best.

Was just gonna say to use relationships Oz. We used them and they offer free sessions. We got three. Basically mediation is the step before court to try and sort your differences, and of course, is waaaaay cheaper than court.

Mediation is great and usually keeps you out of court which is a really expensive process, Book it as soon as you can before your relationship goes too far south. A mediator will be able to help you put a plan together.
