GuestI am wondering if anyone has pursued charges against a partner/ex-partner for marital rape or coercive sexual abuse…? How on earth do you prove something like that? I am worried about it going to court and then getting thrown out because it is simply my word against his….??

GuestSpeak to a lawyer but I’m guessing you would need evedience.

KeymasterYes, it won’t be looked at on a word bases I don’t think, you would need some evidence. Legal advice is best bet for you.

GuestNo. Just like other forms of domestic abuse, it can be very difficult to provide evidence because it happens behind closed doors and often there are no bruises (e.g., in the case of coercive control-the most dangerous form of domestic abuse but difficult to prove). You could try Women’s Legal Service. You most definitely need legal advice on this.

KeymasterThe police would be a good first point but I would imagine that proving it would be mighty hard, especially within a relationship or marriage. There would be a huge amount of grey area around the consent issue. Having said this I hope you make headway and get a result you deserve.
